Meeting 04-2008

Visit to the Malta Maritime Museum at Vittoriosa, Sunday 6 April 2008

AROC Malta is not just about Alfas.  The Club brings together people from all walks of life not just for the furtherance of their passion for Alfas, but also to meet socially and visit places of interest in Malta where otherwise they would very probably never go to in a lifetime.

By posting photographs of not just the cars but also the locations we visit, we are doing our small part in promoting the many wonderful places these small but beautiful Islands have to offer.

For the event of Sunday 6 April we assembled in the carpark of the airport McDonalds and then drove to the Maritime Museum in the ancient city of Vittoriosa.  The Museum charts Malta's maritime history and lore within a Mediterranean context and also illustrates the global nature of seafaring and its impact on society.

The Museum is housed in the former British Naval Bakery.  The building, designed by British architect William Scamp, was erected between 1842 and 1845 on the site of the old covered slipway of the Knights of St John.  The Museum contains a highly interesting collection of artefacts dating from 1530 to the late 20th Century.
